A former Southeast Raleigh High School assistant principal who faces dozens of sex-related charges in Harnett County appeared in a Wake County courtroom for the first time Monday.

Larry Ray Jewell was ordered to be held on a $20,000 bond. He is charged with one count of taking indecent liberties with a minor. Police said an incident allegedly occurred at Southeast Raleigh High last spring involving a male student.

Jewell also faces 46 sex-related charges in Harnett County and is being held on a $3.25 million bond.

According to the Dunn Police Department and the Harnett County Sheriff's Office, those charges stem from alleged abuse dating to 1999. But defense attorney Jesse Jones said Jewell is being set up by the accuser and Jewell's estranged wife.

A judge ruled there was enough evidence to move forward with the Harnett County charges and sent the case to a grand jury, which will consider the case on April 16.

THIS IS NASTY! I am a young girl who knew Jewell. And it doesn;t surprise me!

Why am I not surprised? Now this is truly the face of this kind of crime.

The guy is still innocent until proven guilty. This is one case where there seems to be lots of doubt, and it needs to be fully investigated and go to trial. If the man is guilty he needs to be locked up forever. If he is innocent the State needs to apologize to him, compensate him for the trouble they put him through, pay his attorney fees and punish the lying accusers. So move forward with the investigations.

I absolutely think that if you can prove without a shadow of a doubt that someone is a child molester, a pedophile, a child pornographer, that person should be put to death no questions asked. But I watched a special either on Dateline or Sixty minutes I am not really sure which one. Anyway this boys computer was targeted by the FBI because he had some child pornography on his computer. In the end it was discovered that people can use your computer to hide their images. If they can get your password. They can even send viruses with pictures in it. I pity the fool who touches my child because the justice system won't have to worry about giving him probation which is what they do 9 times out of 10, that will be one dead s.o.b. I just think we need to be 100% sure before we send someone away for life. I have no sympathy for child molesters zip, zero, nil, but I have a lot of sympathy for the innocent man who goes to jail for a crime he did not commit.

In what Century will our legislators start putting our kids at the top of the priority list? What will it take to truly recognize this epidemic of child sexual abuse? They all talk a good game but when it comes to action I just don't see it. The solution is very simple. Abuse a child and you are removed from society, never to roam our streets to hurt another innocent. Remove digression from prosecutors and judges by invoking mandatory sentences. Stop plea bargains for crimes against children, period. It is long over due that the people who can truly make a difference stand up and say that our children are not for sale. Our legislators have been informed that child-porn images have been linked to more than 65,000 IP addresses in North Carolina alone. What more staggering information could there be for our leaders to move the safety of our children to the top of the priority list. Once a child is victimized there is no turning back from the life time of trauma that will ensue.
