Friends and family will gather Friday evening at a Durham church to remember the first black woman to serve in the North Carolina Senate.

Jeanne Lucas was in her seventh term when she died last Friday. She was 71.

A wake will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Union Baptist Church on North Roxboro Street. Her funeral will also be held there at noon Saturday.

All flags in Durham County were flying at half staff until sunset Sunday in Lucas' honor.

Trooper-is that all you have to say about this historically important human being? Are you drinking?

The Lady has been dead for eight days I don't see why they didn't bury her four days ago. What is the deal of not burying people like James Brown,Anna Nicole Smith or any other person. Bury the People!!! Then you can say what go they did or what bad they did, are you people expecting them to speak or rise?
