Police Arrest Suspects After Series of Burglaries

Posted Updated

LOUISBURG — Five adults and one juvenile are now in custody in Franklin County in connection with a string of break-in's. Police say the suspects have been targeting at least six counties for about two months.

Arrested were Joshua Althiser, David Higginbotham, Harry Dupree II, Anthony Ray, Clayton Adair and an unidentified juvenile. Investigators say they got a break when they stopped one of the suspect's girlfriends, Heather Weatherford, and found stolen goods in her car.

In all, the suspects face a total of 46 charges in four different counties. Investigators say they believe the five are part of a widespread burglary ring.

The thieves consistently took items they could easily steal and just as easily sell. Items such as guns, jewelry, liquor. So far, the group has been connected with burglaries in Wake, Franklin, Johnston, Warren, Vance and Nash counties.

Major Danny Bellamy of the Wake County Sheriff's Department says he believes this is just the beginning.

The counties involved are working together on the investigation. The suspects will have court appearances in each of the counties this week.

Investigators say they do expect to charge more people in this case and that they believe they will find more evidence. What they have so far was found in cars, homes and some abandoned buildings.

Franklin County investigators say they believe the group was selling or trading the stolen property for drugs.
