More than 21% of North Carolina's four-year-olds enrolled in the state's pre-kindergarten programs during the 2022-2023 school year, up from the prior year but still below the state's pre-pandemic highs, according to the National Institute for Early Education Research.

<b>RALEIGH</b> — The assistant commissioner of North Carolina's Division of Motor Vehicles has been suspended with pay from his post.

Edward Carr is on investigative leave, but no one is saying why.

A security officer escorted Carr from the DMV offices Friday.  DMV officials say the situation is an internal matter, and will not be referred to the State Bureau of Investigation.
