Posted Updated

APEX — One man is on the mend and another on the loose after a Thursday night carjacking in southern Wake County. Now, police are on the lookout for the gunman.

Details are sketchy, but WRAL-TV5 News has learned that it all started in Apex with a burglary. The burglar escaped in a van.

He made his way into Fuquay-Varina, and that's when Fuquay-Varina police began their pursuit. Then, at the intersection of Highways 64 and 55 near Apex, the man ditched the van, found another car, shot that car's driver, and stole it. That's when police lost him.

The wounded driver received a shot in the leg. He'll be okay, police say.

Police are looking for a black male, 5'10" tall, 180 pounds, with no other distinguishing characteristics. A description of the getaway car was not immediately available. He's wanted for armed robbery and kidnapping charges in Virginia and Texas.

Police consider the suspect to be armed and very dangerous.
