LUMBERTON — The Robeson County Sheriff's Department says a 6-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his 12-year-old sister, Denise Hucks. The shooting occurred around 1 p.m. Monday at the children's older sister's home on Shannon Road, just west of Lumberton.
Investigators say the boy picked up a shotgun in a bedroom and was going to show it to his sister when it went off. The two children were home from school because Monday was a teacher's work day. The older sister, age 18, had left the home to run a quick errand. Detectives are working to determine who owned the gun and whether any charges will be filed.
