Rowland Councilman in Hospital Days After Attack
A Rowland town councilman was in critical condition Wednesday, a week after being attacked, police said.
Posted — UpdatedCouncilman Charles Johnson was assaulted by four teens on March 6, but he wasn't visibly hurt and didn't go to the hospial, Rowland Police Chief Daniel Bradsher said.
But Johnson was rushed to an area hospital Tuesday with an apparent stroke and is on life support, Bradsher said.
It's unclear if his condition is connected to the assault.
Jacarri Taylor, 18, of 301 E. Main St. in Rowland, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and assault inflicting serious injury in connection with the incident. Lamarick Hammond, of 98 Jimmy's Mobile Home Park in Lumberton was charged with simple assault; Londe Gatlin, 19, of 98 Jimmy's Mobile Home Park in Lumberton, was cited for communicating threats, and a juvenile also was charged in the incident.
