Convicted Teen and Man Who Confessed Both Remain in Jail

Posted Updated

BENSON — It's a case of "he said, he said" in Johnston County. Two men pointing fingers at each other are involved in a bizarre case.

Terrance Garner, 17, was convicted for a 1997 robbery this past week, and was sentenced to more than 30 years in prison. Then, in a surprising turn of events, after Garner's conviction, a man named Terrance Deloatch reportedly confessed to the crime, then later recanted.

Garner's attorney says Deloatch is simply trying to save himself.Of course he's going to turn around now. He's figured out that he's looking at going to prison for the rest of his life. You can imagine. He'll start making up everything. It's easy to lie now.-->

Because Deloatch withdrew his confession, both suspects will remain in jail until a new hearing can be held next week.
