Officer's Death Thought to Be Accidental

e-mail print friendly

The death of a Spring Lake police officer found in his home late Tuesday is being treated as an accident.

Two fellow officers went looking for 29-year-old Lee Wood, Jr., when he didn't show up for work. They found him in his Eureka Springs home, dead from a gunshot wound.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Department does not think it was foul play, nor do they believe it was a suicide.

However, police don't know whether the fatal shot was fired from Wood's service revolver. Deputies will conduct a thorough investigation into officer's death.
