Raleigh police had to close temporarily a stretch of Avent Ferry Road because of flash flooding. A creek went over its banks -- and over the road -- leaving it awash in mud, tree debris and packed leaves. As the waters subsided and crews cleared Avent Ferry of the mess, police regulated traffic flow.
Parts of Hillsborough Street were also closed because of standing water.
High winds pushed some trees into power lines.
At the height of the storm Sunday morning, 6300 homes in Wake County and the surrounding areas were without power after downed trees did more damage to lines.
CP&L says there were just a few scattered outages by late Sunday afternoon.
And a water main broke during stormy weather in Durham. The broken line created a sinkhole on Duke Street near Carver Street and left some customers without running water.
Repair crews will have to replace the broken water main and take care of the crater it left in the street.
An apartment building on East Davie Road in Raleigh didn't escape the rough weather. A tree landed right on roof of Eastwood Court. Luckily, it didn't cause much damage and no one was hurt.
Tree branches loosened by wind also littered the ground.
