Third Child Dies from Crash Injuries

Posted Updated

CLAYTON — Another child has died from Tuesday's deadly accident on a rural road in Johnston County.

Little Ryan Moss died Saturday night at Wake Medical Center. He had been rescued after the car in which he was riding flipped into a creek, but had been in critical condition since.

The car was driven by Regina Hall of Benson. Her three children were also in the vehicle. Two of them, Toni, 7, and Taylor, 5, died within hours of the accident. Taryn Hall, 20 months old, is in the pediatric care unit at Wake Medical Center, where her status has been upgraded from critical to guarded.

Hall was babysitting for the Moss child when the accident occurred. Hall had picked up Toni from Cleveland Elementary School, and was driving all the children back home to Benson along a narrow, winding section of Raleigh Road. Her car veered to the right and plunged head first into Middle Creek. A witness said Hall attempted to turn the car back onto the roadway, but had lost traction. The car came to rest under 5 feet of icy, murky water.

If you would like to contribute to memorial funds, accounts have been set up by friends of the families. The Hall fund has been established at the BB&T bank on East Main street in Clayton. Call 553-6131 for more information.

The Ryan Moss Fund has been set up at First Citizens Bank, 120 Glen Road, Garner, NC 27529. If checks are written to the Cleveland Fire Department-Ryan Moss Fund, the contribution is said to be tax-deductible. Volunteers from the department were among the rescuers.
