Durham Police Say Girl Named in Amber Alert Found

A statewide Amber Alert for a 15-year-old Durham girl was canceled about two hours later after police said she was found.

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police posted an Amber Alert for a girl who reportedly had been kidnapped at gunpoint from her school bus stop, then announced  the girl had been located.

Police said only that  Natalie Sanchez Fernandeza, 15, had been found shortly after 9:30 p.m. The state Department of Crime Control and Public Safety said the girl was "safely recovered."

"Durham Police worked relentlessly following leads and located Ms. Natalie Sanchez Fernandez. Because of the sensitivity of this investigation, no additional information will be released at this time," an announcement said.

Witnesses had told police she had been abducted by two men shortly after 3 p.m. near the Duke Manor apartments where her family lives.

Police had been looking for a white Honda Civic.
