RALEIGH — Former U.S. Senator, North Carolina Governor and Duke President Terry Sanford received a special award Saturday night.
He and his wife Margaret Rose were recognized for their years of work on behalf of children.
They couldn't attend, but former WRAL-TV5 news anchor Charlie Gaddy was lavish with praise at a fundraiser for the Methodist Home for Children.
For the past few weeks, Sanford has been undergoing treatment for cancer.
The organization provides services to families. It hopes to develop a child-care center, and increase its substance abuse programs.
