Thousands Ring In New Year With First Night Raleigh

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — While New Yorkers and most of the nation focused on the big crystal ball dropping from New York City's Times Square, the Triangle's focus was on the big acorn.

Thousands of New Year's Eve revelers partied away the last moments of 2005 in downtown Raleigh Saturday ending a daylong celebration that featured 29 venues with music, storytelling and everything in between.

Celebrating its 15th anniversary, First Night Raleigh 2006 was expected to draw in more than 45,000 people/

WRAL's Julia Lewis and Ken Smith were in downtown for the festivities and helped ring in the New Year.
