Durham Mayor, Three Councilors Named In Lawsuit

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham Mayor Bill Bell and three city council members are at the center of a federal lawsuit.

A contractor named Hairston Enterprises says the city failed to hire low-income residents to help build the Barnes Avenue housing project. The lawsuit claims that is a violation of federal law.

The city councilors named in the lawsuit include Eugene Brown, Diane Catotti and Cora Cole-McFadden

Hairston Enterprises is owned by Vincent Brown, a man who ran for mayor earlier this year. Brown dropped out once news surfaced about his criminal record.
