Eggleston Murder Investigation Moves Forward

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE — A family whose 16-year old son was murdered is dealing with new pain. Chris Eggleston was strangled to death in June. A teenage boy was arrested weeks after the crime. Tuesday afternoon, police arrested a 16-year old girl for conspiring to kidnap Eggleston.

News of the arrest comes as a relief to Chris's family, but it also brings them pain. The Egglestons are happy that investigators have kept on top of the case. But every new development is another painful reminder of their son's death.

They thought they knew everything that was going on in his life, but they didn't. They want their story to be a wake up call to all parents to get involved in their childrens' lives.

Angie and Wayne Eggleston remember their murdered son Chris everyday.

"My birthday was Jan. 5," explains Chris' father. "Chris wasn't there. His birthday is coming up on April 15. He won't be there. We just still can't believe still that this has happened."

Angie Eggleston describes the pain as heart-wrenching.

In June, 17-year-old Matthew Myers was charged with murder. Now 16-year-old Shanon Tyson has been charged with conspiracy to commit kidnapping.

"It just tears you open inside again," Chris' father explains. "It starts you all over, just like the day they found Chris' body."

Chris' parents are urging other parents to get more involved with their kids, and to know that the pain they are going through can happen to anyone.

Captain Brad Chandler of the Fayetteville Police Department hopes that as more information can be proven in court, more arrests will follow.

The Egglestons are so serious about helping other parents, they even paid a visit to Brittany Locklear's mother to give their condolences and offer support. Locklear was found dead two weeks ago after being abducted from her school bus stop.

Shanon Tyson is out of jail on $10,000 bond. Investigators say she turned herself into the police station after she heard of the charges against her.
