Headstone Purchased for Abandoned Newborn's Grave

e-mail print friendly

A weekend yard sale raised enough money to buy a headstone for the grave of a baby found dead last month in a Rocky Mount trash bin.

The Fraternal Order of Police raised $800 in the yard sale to help pay for the funeral and grave marker.

Investigators said someone killed the 2-day-old boy and deposited the body in a Dumpster behind a Food Lion in the River's Edge Shopping Center on U.S. Highway 301. A man looking for recyclable materials found the body, which still had the umbilical cord attached.

Authorities haven't disclosed the cause of death. They said the infant might have been killed elsewhere and dumped in Rocky Mount.

A $10,000 reward has been established for information leading to an arrest in the case. The money was donated by the Rocky Mount Police Department and from inidividuals.

THANK GOD FOR POEPLE LIKE YOU THAT TOOK OUT THERE TIME AND MONEY TO HELP THIS BABY BLESS EACH AND EVERY ONE I WOULD DO THE SAME ........LOVE

I agree...WTG to the people involved with this Little Angel!!!

i am thankful that there are some really decent, caring people left. this just proves goodness.

A big "thank you" goes out to the Fraternal order of Police for taking care of this stranger (baby) when his own family wouldn't even do it. God bless you for your time and efforts.

Again WRAL puts the "Goldsboro Girl Wins CBS Early Show Contest" story ahead of this one. What a shame and a disrespect to an innocent life. At least this little one is where we should all want to be. I don't gamble, but if I were a betting, I would bet that when the Rapture takes place, that story, too, will be at the bottom of the list! Get saved people!!!
