Goldsboro Girl Wins CBS Early Show Contest

Posted March 8, 2007

— An 11-year-old opera singer from Goldsboro will appear on the "CBS Early Show" next week after winning a national talent competition.

Madeleine Edwards captured 41 percent of the vote from Early Show viewers in its "Living Room ... Live! Kids' Edition" contest, easily outdistancing the other two finalists, including 8-year-old Katherine Fritsch of Raleigh.

Twenty-six contestants sent in video clips of their performances to CBS, which aired them in recent months and asked viewers to vote for their favorites.

Edwards, a student at Eastern Wayne Middle School, performed an operatic aria, while Fritsch sang "The Star-Spangled Banner."

Edwards will appear live on the Early Show next Tuesday.

Madeline definitely has the most talent of the 3 finalists. I'm thankful 41% of the people who voted thought so. She will certainly go far in this world. I cannot believe she is just 11. She is blessed with a talent and her family will surely see that it is cultivated. WONDERFUL NEWS Madeline!!! Raleigh is so proud of you!

I saw both of the little girls perform and while they both were good, my opinion is the girl from Raleigh did a better job.
