An 11-year-old opera singer from Goldsboro will appear on the "CBS Early Show" next week after winning a national talent competition.

Madeleine Edwards captured 41 percent of the vote from Early Show viewers in its "Living Room ... Live! Kids' Edition" contest, easily outdistancing the other two finalists, including 8-year-old Katherine Fritsch of Raleigh.

Twenty-six contestants sent in video clips of their performances to CBS, which aired them in recent months and asked viewers to vote for their favorites.

Edwards, a student at Eastern Wayne Middle School, performed an operatic aria, while Fritsch sang "The Star-Spangled Banner."

Edwards will appear live on the Early Show next Tuesday.
