Standoff At Durham Hotel Ends With No Suspect

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — A standoff at a Durham hotel ended shortly after it began, but police still do not have a man they believe to be connected with a homicide that occurred earlier this month.

Police said they were called Wednesday afternoon to Homestead Studio Suites at 4515 N.C. Highway 55 after receiving a call that the a guest had drugs in his room.

Authorities said they believed the man to be Roderick Wooten, who police are looking for in connection with the Dec. 9 shooting death of 23-year-old Jason Harrington.

Officers negotiated for about 30 minutes before releasing into the hotel room an explosive device designed to clear a room without harming anyone. Members of a SWAT team then entered the room, but did not find the suspect.

Investigators said there was evidence in the room that Wooten had been staying there.
