Clayton Residents Can Now Dial 911 For Emergencies

Posted Updated

CLAYTON, N.C. — In case of an emergency, Clayton residents can now dial 911.

The town has eliminated its seven-digit police hotline after some residents said it was too hard to remember.

Clayton Police Chief Gary Ragland said residents probably will not notice any major differences in telephone or emergency service , but the switch will not come without controversy.

The town will have to eliminate four town staff positions and close the police station at night.
