Rural Counties See High Rate Of Deadly Car Accidents

Posted Updated

HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. — AAA Carolinas released its rankings of the

most dangerous counties

in North Carolina and there are some surprises.

The study suggests the of most dangerous counties for being in a car wreck includes New Hanover, Mecklenburg, Pitt, Durham and Wake counties. However, the list that suggests where you have the greatest chance of being killed in a car accident is dominated by rural counties, including Hoke and Harnett counties.

"There is a lot more traffic that comes through here than there used to be. A lot of times when I pull out from the house, there is a lot going this way and that way," said Harnett County driver Nadine Avery.

AAA bases their rankings on the number of collisions, deaths and injuries per mile traveled in each county.
