COATS, N.C. — The police chief in Coats is back on the job after being fired only two weeks ago.
Durwood Stallings was being interviewed two weeks ago when he received his termination letter. On Friday, he returned to work after a judge ordered him to be reinstated.
The judge said town leaders illegally fired Stallings and the town clerk on Dec. 12. The case will go to court next week.
