Ten units at The Woodlands at Wakefield Plantation are a complete loss after a Thursday morning fire. Other units were damaged by smoke and water. Nineteen of the 20 units were occupied.
Students, teachers and parents of nearby Wakefield Middle School are helping those affected by the fire. The Wakefield Middle School PTSA have been collecting cash donations and gift cards. As of noon Friday, Lillian DuBiel, president of the Wakefield Middle School PTSA, said they have collected close to $10,000.
The American Red Cross is assisting the victims with emergency assistance and the apartment complex has placed residents in other units.
Investigators are trying to figure out what caused the fire.
