Early Morning Plant Fire In Nash County Under Control

ELM CITY, N.C. — Firefighters are working on a blaze at a plant in Elm City.
Authorities say the Elm City Electronics Facility, located off
N.C. Highway 97
, caught fire early Thursday morning. The plant is used to integrate metal, plastic and electronics.
Fire crews had been on the scene since around 4:50 a.m. The blaze is under control, but the warehouse area has extensive damage.
Some workers were about to start their shifts when the fire broke out.
"It's been a very difficult and hard day. You see it on TV all the time, but can't imagine it until you have actually experienced it," said manufacturing director Sylvia Bailey.
"It's like a death in the family. I made a lot of good friends and people I'm going to miss. It is really going to be tough," said employee Evelyn Davis.
Nine fire departments were called out to the scene, as well as Nash EMS and sheriff officials. It was not immediately known what caused the fire.
There were no reports of any injuries.
