The new mayor will have a lot of his plate. The city recently annexed more than 26 square miles. As a result, more than 42,000 people became city residents.
Many residents voted for Chavonne because he opposed the annexation. In the newly annexed areas, Chavonne plans to extend sewer lines sooner than expected and help people with their new, higher city property taxes.
Chavonne said he will tackle these goals within the first 100 days, which means he will need the help of the city leaders he criticized.
Chavonne also wants to keep building the city's image, end the bickering between the city and county and the city and public works commission.
He also wants to capitalize on Fort Bragg's expansion. The post is adding a major command, its first four-star general, and thousands of soldiers and their families.
The ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. at the Airborne and Special Operations Museum. Keith Bates, Charles Evans and Wesley Meredith will also get sworn in as the newest members of the City Council.
