Durham, N.C. — Twelve Durham co-workers have won a $200,000 Powerball prize, N.C. Education Lottery officials announced Friday.
The self-proclaimed "Dirty Dozen" work for Parata Systems. They traveled to Raleigh Thursday to collect their prize, which amounted to $11,333 per person after taxes.
“We all feel so blessed,” said Sandra Hays of Pelham. “We’ve been playing together since it started. We have been looking forward to this day for long time.”
The group, made up of quality engineers, electronics technicians, and buyers said they each put in $1 for each drawing. They bought their winning ticket at Kangaroo Express #3093 on N.C. Highway 55 in Durham.
Anthony DiGiovanni of Raleigh checked the winning numbers on the computer when he arrived at work Thursday morning.
“He came running and screaming,” Hays said. “I could not for the life of me figure out what could have happened to get him that bent out of shape. It’s out of character for him. He is always so calm."
The group matched all five white balls in Wednesday night's drawing. The winning numbers were 13, 20, 41, 42, and 53.
The winners said they plan to take trips, buy new cars, set up college funds, and invest their winnings.
The winners are:
Beth Hall – Ramseur
Jeromey Murdock – Fuquay-Varina
Angela Cottle – Cary
Randy Daniels – Franklinton
James Stanley – Raleigh
Ricky Upchurch – Durham
Roderick Howie – Durham
Leverne Byrd – Raleigh
Bryan Farnsworth – Wake Forest
