Authorities in Fayetteville are investigating the death of a toddler.

At around 7:30 a.m. Friday, officers were called to 408 Turnpike Drive in Fayetteville. When they arrived, they found the 2-year-old unresponsive. The child was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where doctors were unable to revive the child.

Authorities said the mother and her child were sleeping in the same bed and the mother may have rolled onto the child, causing the child to suffocate. Detectives said there were no obvious signs of trauma.
