At 9:26 a.m., Richmond police were called to the 6800 block of Carnation Street. There they found the body of Melvin Williams, 48, of Zebulon in woods across the street from an apartment complex.
The initial investigation indicates Williams died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
Williams was wanted on suspicion of murder in the death of Yvette Raeford, 39, of Richmond, Va.
Raeford was found Nov. 11 shot outside in the parking lot of Ashley Creek Apartments in the 6900 block of Marlowe Road in Richmond.
Raeford was born and raised in Zebulon. She worked at Hodge Road Elementary until October 2003, when she moved to Richmond, Va.
