One hundred twenty-six entrants will fill the downtown streets from 9:30 a.m. until noon. This year's route is similar to last year's, only slightly shorter because of construction for the new convention center.

The parade starts on Hillsborough Street at St. Mary's Street, heads east on Hillsborough Road to the Capital, south on Salisbury Street, then ends at the intersection of Salisbury and Davie streets -- a 1.4-mile route.

On-street parking in the blocks just off the parade route is the best way to go. Parking decks and state employee lots will also be open.

Everyone always asks, "Where is the best place to sit and get the best vantage point on the parade?" The Retail Merchants Association said anywhere along the route works, but one of the top spots is the corner of McDowell and Hillsborough streets.

Interest in Raleigh's parade spans the state.

"I got a call from a guy from Greenville. I got a call from a guy from Charlotte, a guy from Rocky Mount and a guy from Goldsboro -- they're all headed to the parade," said John Odom, of the
