A Johnston County substitute teacher faces seven counts each of sex with a student and child abduction.

A substitute teacher at South Johnston High School was charged Wednesday on seven counts of sex with a student and seven counts of child abduction.

Cornelius Lamont White, 33, was arrested after the Johnston County Sheriff's Office investigated upon receiving an anonymous tip.

More charges are pending, the sheriff's office said.

Investigators said the alleged crimes started last November and involved a 17-year-old girl, but it was not immediately clear if the girl is a student at the high school.

Authorities said none of the crimes occurred at the high school, where White also served as a non-faculty coach.

White, who has no previous arrests in North Carolina, is in jail under a $400,000 bond.

In a statement released Thursday afternoon, Johnston County Schools officials said White was no longer on a list of approved substitutes for the school system and that he is not a current employee.
