French Visit Fayetteville to Honor Its Namesake

e-mail print friendly
Sacre bleu! Les français sont arrivés.

The French have landed in Fayetteville!

A delegation from St. Avold, Fayetteville's sister city in France, arrived Wednesday for a five-day visit. The dates coincide with a visit that the Marquis de Lafayette paid to Fayetteville in 1825.

Lafayette was the French general who teamed with American leaders to help America win the Revolutionary War. And he's Fayetteville's namesake.

This year marks Lafayette's 250th birthday.

St. Avold is in northeastern France, in the Moselle region and not far from the German border. A World War II cemetery is nearby.

and the french laughed all the way home after they saw that hell hole

Marseille is a much more appropriate "sister city" for Fayetteville.
