Tractor-Trailer, 3 Cars Tangle in Cary Accident
Cary, N.C. — Authorities said three automobiles and a tractor-trailer got tangled up Wednesday in an accident that sent one person to the hospital and affected traffic on U.S. Highway 64 and Gregson Drive.
A westbound car on Highway 64 turned left in front of the eastbound truck, police said. The truck hit the car, careered through the intersection and wound up along a ditch and guardrail, listing to its right.
The car that was hit was knocked onto the median and hit a second car waiting to turn, according to police. A third car waiting next to the second one to turn was showered in broken glass.
Police said Karitta McClease, 25, of Raleigh was driving the car hit by the tractor-trailer and was taken to WakeMed in Raleigh. Her condition was not immediately available.
DMV Motor Carrier officers cited the tractor-trailer driver for having a non-operating left front brake. Investigators had not decided if they would file other charges in the crash, police said.
Authorities temporarily closed all lanes of eastbound traffic on Highway 64.
