Tractor-Trailer, 3 Cars Tangle in Cary Accident

Posted February 28, 2007

— Authorities said three automobiles and a tractor-trailer got tangled up Wednesday in an accident that sent one person to the hospital and affected traffic on U.S. Highway 64 and Gregson Drive.

A westbound car on Highway 64 turned left in front of the eastbound truck, police said. The truck hit the car, careered through the intersection and wound up along a ditch and guardrail, listing to its right.

The car that was hit was knocked onto the median and hit a second car waiting to turn, according to police. A third car waiting next to the second one to turn was showered in broken glass.

Police said Karitta McClease, 25, of Raleigh was driving the car hit by the tractor-trailer and was taken to WakeMed in Raleigh. Her condition was not immediately available.

DMV Motor Carrier officers cited the tractor-trailer driver for having a non-operating left front brake. Investigators had not decided if they would file other charges in the crash, police said.

Authorities temporarily closed all lanes of eastbound traffic on Highway 64.

PDMartin - must you paint everyone who lives in Cary with the same "bad driver" brush? I don't think Cary has the market cornered on crappy drivers -- they're everywhere. It amazes me how much sterotype bashing is posted in these comments. It's incredibly unfair and very rude.

That's people in Cary for you. If there's two feet between
vehicles, they'll pull out in front of you. It happens to me
everyday going to work. I guess their mindset is
"Oh, they'll stop, or slow down". Senseless.
