Garner Leaders Vote In Favor Of Proposed Holly Springs Landfill

Posted Updated

GARNER, N.C. — Garner city leaders unanimously voted Tuesday to build a new landfill in Holly Springs.

Just last week, Raleigh City Council members voted in favor of a proposal to send the county's trash to a landfill that would be built on a 447-acre area of land off of U.S. Highway 55 in Holly Springs when the current landfill in North Raleigh closes in 2007.

Wake County's manager insists it would be cheaper to bring the trash to Holly Springs rather than haul it outside the county, but the town of Holly Springs rejects the idea. Leaders there argue that it would be cheaper to haul trash outside the county.
