DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police said a woman who was the victim of a hit-and-run wreck this weekend has died.

Police said that at about 3:45 a.m. Saturday the driver of a blue 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier pulled out of an alley just south of

Monmouth Avenue

and attempted to make a left turn onto Gregson Street when the driver struck a Ford Focus, causing it to hit a tree.

The driver of the Ford, Jenna Clayton, 21, of Durham, was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment. Clayton died later on Saturday, police said Monday morning.

The driver of the Cavalier fled the scene and has not been identified.

The accident remains under investigation, police said.
