Lumber Truck Overturns on U.S. 1

Posted February 27, 2007

An 18-wheeler went for a wild ride on U.S. 1 near Wake Forest Tuesday afternoon.

The driver of the tractor-trailer said that he overturned his truck after a car cut him off. The truck flipped on its side and the lumber it was hauling slid off the back. The driver was not hurt.

Officers shut down the northbound lanes of U.S. 1 near the Wake-Franklin county line and rerouted traffic as they continue to clear up the boards.

maybe i'm heartless, but my husband is a truck driver. you wouldnt believe some of the stories of what people do, and my husband would do WHATEVER it took to try and not hurt someone else, regardless of the situation or whos fault it was cuz he couldnt live with it. i see how people do big trucks, and its plain stupid. (passing a big truck in emergency lane. or even better...a one lane EXIT RAMP)and if your so stupid to do some ***t i have seen, you deserve to get hit! why should my husband risk his life to make sure a plain idiot is safe and gets home in one piece, and have to pry his dead body outta the woods somewhere and leave our kids with no father??? this is how i feel: WITH DRIVERS ED AND COMMON SENSE PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW BETTER!!!! THEIR JUST TO DANG LAZY TO THINK BEFORE THEY DO OR EITHER TO MUCH IN A DANG HURRY TO CARE!!!!

That's a dangerous area. Accidents like this are bound to happen if we are not on our best behavior.Let's be careful in busy areas

It was loads of 2x4's. I am up and down that speedway everyday and its not just one group of people or another. I would say about 40% are in need of a revocation or serious driving classes. I have seen people doing some really bizarre things in their vehicles in the morning and evening.

Not knowing the difference be Logs and Lumber sounds like a dig at the logging industry ?? Those people that don't respect tractor trailers haven't seem what 80,000 pounds of semi will do to a 3000 pound car. Mutual respect would be a nice way to start. They start slow and stop slow, but small vehicles don't stand a chance.

u know everyone blames the truckdrivers and if it wasnt for people driving the 4wheelers who think that these big trucks can stop on a dime then alot of the accidents wouldnt take place. some drivers think they can do whatever they want and the 18 wheelers can stop they cant and some driving there vehicles who believe that are mainly the cause of most of the accidents .... for those 4 wheelers who think they can cut the truckdrivers off you need to really go look at an accident involving a truck then maybe you will slow down and stop cutting them off after you see what can happen

WRAL people should know the difference between a log truck and a lumber truck. It may have something to do with the size of the wood. Last I remember the wood does not come out of the woods shaped like a 2x4 or a 2x6.
