Vance Man to Face Charges in Wounding of Mother, Man's Slaying
Henderson, N.C. — A Vance County man is to be arraigned Wednesday on charges that he wounded his mother and fatally shot a man.
Rodney McDonald Williams was arrested Tuesday morning, about six hours after authorities were called to a residence at 3904 Southerland Mill Road near the Vance-Warren county line.
He had barricaded himself inside the home with a loaded gun, officials said. They found him hiding under a pickup truck behind it.
When a SWAT team entered the home shortly before 7 a.m., they found Leo Ziegler dead inside.
Authorities said Williams' mother, Shirley Venable, was taken to a hospital, but she is alive.
Investigators said they did not know Williams' motive Tuesday. The charges he will face had not been specified.
