GRANVILLE COUNTY, N.C. — School leaders announced Tuesday makeup days for students who missed classes at South Granville High School because of a mercury scare.
Police said two students stole the mercury on Oct. 11 and passed it out to other students.
The school was closed for three days while health officials conducted air quality tests and cleaned up 14 classrooms that had mercury vapor levels higher than the recommended level by the Environmental Protection Agency.
The makeup days are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 12; Saturday, Nov. 19; and Thursday, Dec. 22.
The school will operate on an early-release schedule on both Saturdays, and the school will operate on an exam schedule in December.
