SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Authorities responded to a major fire in Smithfield.
It happened shortly before midnight at the old Holt Lake Nursery near U.S. Highway 301.
The fire caused heavy damage to the building, which was not in use.
No one was hurt. The cause is under investigation.
