GOLDSBORO — Wayne County commissioners are trying to cut through the red tape that may be separating flood victims from the help they need.
The county wants the names of flood victims who registered withFEMA, so it can pass on the information to nonprofit agencies that can offer additional help.
The problem is that the information is confidential, and FEMA is forbidden from releasing it.
Commissioners have signed off on a resolution to ask for an exception to the rule.
They also sent a copy of the resolution to several other counties still recovering from the flood.
So far, lawmakers have not received a response.
