Man Sues Fayetteville Police After Shooting Left Him Paralyzed

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A man who claims police shot him without being provoked has sued the Fayetteville Police Department, the Fayetteville police chief, and several police officers.

Renauld Curtis was shot several times by police in October 2003 during an undercover drug bust, investigators said. The shooting left Curtis paralyzed.

The lawsuit, which was filed in federal court on Wednesday, claims Curtis was not armed at the time of the shooting and posed no threat to police officers.

Shortly after the shooting, prosecutors looked into the incident and concluded that the officers followed proper procedures. The district attorney did not file charges.
