Wake Residents Hear Proposal For North Wake Landfill

RALEIGH, N.C. — Some Wake County residents attended a meeting Tuesday night at Durant Middle School to see what could happen to a county landfill set to close in two years.
A rough draft of a proposed project presented Wednesday would transform the North Wake Landfill in Raleigh to include a school, athletic fields and hiking trails.
Another public meeting is scheduled for Dec. 6 to give residents a final opportunity to give their input on the project before the final plan is complete.
Most of Wake County's city and town leaders support a proposal that would put a new landfill in Holly Springs, but Holly Springs Mayor Dick Sears believes the property would be better used for other purposes.
