WRAL News
Horseplay behind the wheel left one man dead and his friend facing charges, police said Monday.

James Howell Jr. and James Holder were joking around outside a Barden Street apartment complex Sunday, when Howell stepped in front of Holder's car, Princeton Police Chief Ed Lewis said. Holder stepped on the gas and the brake at the same time, but his foot slipped off the brake pedal, Lewis said.

The car raced forward and pinned Howell against the apartment building, Lewis said.

Howell was airlifted to Duke University Hospital with extensive internal injuries, and he died at the hospital.

Holder will face a minimum charge of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, Lewis said.

This is a funny story.

Adults are not always responsible. This was a terrible accident while 2 friends were playing around. He should not go to jail, he will have his punishment just knowing and living with what he has done. doughboy, you're an ass.

very very sad. nobody comes out okay.

My prayers and heart goes out to both families, it was an accident, and that is a terrible thing to live with knowing you killed someone who was close to you because of an accident....

5511, Carsteph81 made a perfectly valid and logical statement. The fact that you can look back does NOT mean that you haven’t done anything in which you could have gotten hurt. For example, let’s say you’ve ran three stop signs from the lack of good judgment. You COULD HAVE gotten hurt had another car been crossing the intersection at the same time. There’s also the possibility of getting hurt, and still looking back. And not looking back because you did get hurt (i.e. dead). All logically valid.

Praying that James Howell be resurrected from the dead.
