RALEIGH, N.C. — The family of a high school student suspended for the rest of the year for running around in his underwear is speaking out.
Dylan Mangum, 17, streaked across the Wake Forest/Rolesville High School football field in a bikini bottom during homecoming and ran into a teacher.
Mangum is not facing any criminal charges, but school officials called the behavior indecent exposure and assault on an educator.
"She was in the way. Dumb luck has it that she was right there in my path. I didn't even see her," he said.
"[It's] absolutely too radical. A long-term suspension, an entire year gone for what is a childish prank," said Mary Mangum, Dylan's mother.
The family is waiting to hear from the Wake County School Board about an appeal. The board's decision is final.
