2 Durham Men Seriously Injured In Car Accident

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — Police said two men were seriously injured in a single-car accident in Durham on Friday night.

Kammie Michael, spokeswoman for the Durham Police Department, said 24-year-old Amando Torres lost control of his vechicle at about 11:20 p.m. on

West Club Boulevard near Northgate Park

and ran off the side of the road.

"The car sideswiped a large oak tree and then traveled 40 feet and slammed into another large oak tree," Michael said.

Torres and a fellow passenger, 30-year-old Javier Ortiz, were taken to Duke University Hospital with serious injuries.

Speed and alcohol appeared to be factors in the accident, investigators said.

Police said Saturday morning that no charges have been filed, but the accident remains under investigation.
