RALEIGH, N.C. — One of two North Carolina State University students killed Friday morning in a fire at a duplex near campus was laid to rest Monday afternoon.

Services for Dylan Cody Pilkington, 19, of Grifton, were held in Winterville Monday afternoon. Services for the other victim, Mark Brandon Davis, 22, of Raleigh, will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Wynne Funeral Home in Raleigh.

Investigators said the victims likely died from smoke inhalation while trying to escape the duplex, which was the home of several fraternity brothers from Sigma Alpha Mu. Eight other students from the apartment were able to escape. One of them, Jason Pfister, of Greensboro, suffered broken bones.

Investigators said that it did not appear the fire was set on purpose, but they are still unsure how it started.

N.C. State has offered temporary housing to the students displaced by the fire.
