Pedestrian Hit By Car In Durham Dies

DURHAM, N.C. — A pedestrian who was struck by a car in Durham on Wednesday evening has died, authorities said Thursday.

Police said Richard Edward Green, 57, crossed the southbound lanes of

N.C. 147 near the Alston Avenue bridge

and then hesitated before trying to run across the northbound lanes at about 6:30 p.m.

As he tried to cross the northbound lanes, Green was struck by a car driven by Jacqueline Zinn, 48, of Chapel Hill.

Green suffered head trauma and injuries to his shoulder, leg, back and side, and he was taken to Duke University Hospital, where he died Wednesday night.

Zinn was treated at Duke University Hospital for minor injuries.

Police said the accident closed the northbound lanes for more than two hours.

Police said no charges have been filed in the accident, but the accident remains under investigation.
