The idea is to raise awareness about obesity and Type 2 diabetes. Officials claim it is a problem at schools around the country and in North Carolina.
Recent Body Mass Index studies show three in 10 Wake County kindergarteners are at risk for obesity.
"A lot of time is spent on video games and TV and not as much emphasis is put on being outside and being free to move around," said Connie Cronk, physical education teacher at Baucom Elementary School.
Schools across the country have been working to turn around their junk food options. Putting out guidelines for foods in vending machines and offering healthier options.
Wednesday marks the fifth year Wake County students have taken part in the national campaign.
