A Cumberland County couple charged with child abuse because their 1- and 2-year-old children were found alone turned themselves in to authorities Wednesday but said they thought a babysitter was with the toddlers.

James and Marcia Hunt were charged with misdemeanor child abuse. Police said a family friend found the 1- and 2-year-old children Sunday night inside their Spring Lake mobile home.

“They were not left alone. A babysitter was there when we left. We went to Wal-Mart to get hamburger meat. When we came back, they were gone," James Hunt said.

The children were unharmed, and Department of Social Services workers took them to their grandmother's home.

The Hunts were released on an unsecured bond.

I know that they will not hurt them because they dont wont a thing in the whole world to happen to them.I hope alot of people should be happy know that the babys are safe. and yes they do drugs but that should not be cared by no one but them.because it is their body and that is how they wont to live their lives.

A coworker and myself were talking about the same thing Stephaniedawn. What age should a child be able to stay at home? But besides that. Those two babies were not near old enough and lets hope that Child Protective Services has enough common sense not to give them kids back for a long time. Rehab and parenting classes for at least a year.
