Former Durham Candidate Arrested on Fraud Charge
Durham, N.C. — A man who ran for mayor in Durham in 2005 until it was disclosed that he had a criminal record is in custody on another charge after a two-month search.
Police have been looking for Vincent Brown since December. Tuesday, he was arrested in Pennsylvania.
Brown was being sought on a fraud charge. Authorities allege that he took nearly $30,000 from a man without doing promised construction work.
Brown was a Republican candidate for mayor until October 2005, when he withdrew after it was reported that court records showed he had served time for forgery.
"I have made mistakes in my life, and I am sorry for those mistakes and have learned mightily from them," Brown said in a written statement when he withdrew.

Interestingly, though, in that election the Durham Co. Republicans had both Vincent Brown and Victoria Peterson (another local political crazy in town) on the ballot, and were led in that election by party chair Steve Monks (AKA the spoiler who split votes with Lewis Cheek in the DA race.) Why does a party that is respectable on the national stage continue to back candidates who are literally jokes in Durham?
Not that I'd vote for them anyway. But even the Globetrotters get tired of beating the Generals all the time.
