Expansion Under Way For RDU's Terminal C

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — RDU International Airport

is moving closer to expanding one of its terminals.

Construction crews are working on the expansion of Terminal C. Officials with the RDU Airport Authority said the terminal will be more modern and more passenger-friendly.

The expansion will include a 400,000-square-foot building, which will feature expanded airline ticketing, baggage check-in, baggage claim and passenger security checkpoint areas. It will also feature a 300,000-square-foot concourse, which will house airline hold rooms, shops and restaurants, boarding gates and airline operations areas.

The cost of the project is estimated to be $350 million and not be complete until October 2009.

The RDU Airport Authority said the construction project will be split into three phases. Plus, the project will have a minimal effect on passengers and flights.

When the expansion of Terminal C is complete, officials plan to renovate and improve Terminal A.
